Western Australia has no trade licence for waterproofing or damp proofing. Registration with the Building Services Board is required to carry out or contract builder-work valued at $20,000 or more, under the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011. Below that, no registration applies.
Most domestic damp jobs — a damp course to one or two walls, drainage correction, replastering a room — land under $20,000. So the majority of Perth damp work is lawfully carried out by people with no registration at all, and they are not doing anything wrong.
Queensland licenses waterproofing as its own QBCC trade class. New South Wales requires a contractor licence above $5,000 and has a specialist waterproofing class. If you have moved here and assumed the trade is licensed because it was licensed at home, it is not.
